Geocodes
Compass takes an address and runs it through the geocoding system, which determines the latitude and longitude of the address, (this gives you the ability to use the "Map This" feature on the Summary page).
- Valid Geocode = Yes/No/Pending
- Pending | Compass regularly (multiple times daily) checks for new address entries and edits, to validate the geocode. This is the status of Pending.
- Invalid | An invalid geocode is the result of an error somewhere in the combination of the city, state, or zip code.
- For example, the city of Atlanta is actually a combination of multiple cities, so an address may be listed as 123 College Street, Atlanta, GA. When it should be 123 College Street, Buckhead, GA. In some scenarios, the Post Office may still deliver the mail accurately, given that they primarily use zip codes for distribution.
- Valid | A valid geocode indicates the address information has been identified and verified. This does not indicate that the address is valid for the individual, but does validate that the address exists.
Valid Geocode = Yes/No vs. Valid/Invalid Address
- Valid/Invalid Addresses
- This address may still be an actual address, thus yielding Valid Geocode = Yes; however, the individual may no longer be at the address, making it invalid for him/her. Marking an address on a record Invalid is exclusive from the Geocode.
