Custom Fields are incredibly dynamic. Data that you want to keep a record of, easily search for, easily update, and easily output in a search result set, can be placed in a custom field. These fields are usually added if there is no other place in Compass to store the data.
Custom Fields are utilized on all parties in Compass: People, Chapters, Associations, etc. The Actions menu in the search results of a People Search (and other searches) allows you to update these fields in mass.
- This technique is an easy way to ascertain which members have received a specific mailing or completed a requirement.
- I.E., you can run a People Search of all new members whose “New Member Welcome Packet” custom field is null, use the search results to identify who to send the packet to, and then update the custom field in mass for all [new members] with the date that it was sent.
- Next time you pull the same search, those same new members will not be included and there'll be updates to reflect that those new members have been added to the roster. They'll also have a null custom field for the welcome packet.
